OFF TO MOSCOW AND BEYOND

Barnaul to Moscow
Armed with a new chain and rear tyre and joined by Aundry I head towards Moscow , About 500km we pull into Ormsk and hunt down a bike shop as the miss is still happening with the bike and i haven't  cleaned the air filter since leaving Australia. so 3 hours later and a lot of mucking around I find the local Motul dealer who opens a can of filter cleaning fluid and a bottle of filter oil to use which was very kind of him . While i'm cleaning the filter we are invited to a bikers festival 800km away but still on the road to Moscow , actually all towns and city's are on the road to Moscow.
2 Days ,lots of rain and more rough roads get us to the festival  in Yakakerinburg . 3000 Russian bikers for 2 days and not 1 ounce of trouble even after all the vodka that is flowing. The organiser  find out about my ride and i get invited on stage alone with a translator to tell the crowd about my travels and why i'm doing it .
Next day after little sleep have a look around Yatakerinburg , the town were the last of Romanov royal family came from and were married, then 3 days of riding throw Prem , Izhevak and Kazan (were i left Aundry as he was heading to the black sea ) find me spending the night 120km before Moscow. What fun that was the next day NOT riding into Moscow . the traffic was insane most of the first 40km were trucks but they turned off to go around Moscow then the next 80 was a 4 lane road that had all the tar seal striped ready for resealing , so it became a free for all , lucky i have the bike and dual sport tyres as the safest place and best to make progress is in the 1.5metres of dirt hard shoulder . the closer i get to the centre the more insane it gets with cars driving on the tram tracks. Eventually i ride up onto the inner ring road , essentially a 4 lane each way race track ,but i found out that if you just go for it and don,t hesitate it isn't that bad and in no time i find my friend house ,which is only 1/2 a km from red square , store the bike and relax for 5 days

Last 1000km of Russia
Up at 6am for a 690km blast to St Petersburg . Quick stop in the red square for a few photos then out of town before the mad Moscow drivers hit the streets. One of the better sign posted Russian city's to get in and out of . Broke one of my rules and stopped at Macdonalds for breakfast , had to eat in the symbol of the capitalistic west in the heart of the old Soviet east.
Once again the road goes from good to OK to crap back to good for the whole 690km. At one point they had strip all the old tar seal properly due to massive pot holes for a 80km length , this meant no lane markings so the trucks took this as a excuse to drive anywhere , once again my off road skills came into play and was able to ride in the rough 2 metre dirt verge  managing to avoid most things and overtake  large lines of vehicles.
The petrol stations must be more trusting the closer you get to the east European boarder as you could fill up then go in and pay . 9 hours later i arrive in St Petereburg, and the first thing i notice is how much like a European city it is . very clean , well kept gardens with canals and canal boats weaving through the streets. Found a hotel that had a camp ground and small cabins about 15km out of town but at first glance you would think it was closed and abandoned , very run down.
next day a bus and underground got me into the city for a day of site seeing . Large harbor and wide waterways with lots of boats and cruise ships , very touristy. Russia have a special 72 hour visa for passengers of the cruise ship that ply the boltic ocean and Scandinavia .
Up early again for the last 300km of 13,000 i did in Russia , this time the road was great no gravel or pot holes. About 20km before the boarder there's a passport check ,why i don't know ,then one at the boarder and another one in no mans land between Russia and Finland. At the boarder it's a bit of a free for all even thought there are lanes. Just stop anywhere ,go to the boarder control window show passport , insurance, hand in my temporary import permit for the bike , couple of stamps in my passport , quick dig inside my panniers by some large burly woman customs guard and I'm cleared to go.
With one last glance back and a reflection of what had just accomplished for the last 6 weeks i turn my back on Russia and enter Finland.

Finland to Norway
Found out my oldest friend's son Tom moved to Finland with his girl friend and is staying at her parents house till he attends university  , quick text message reveals  he's only 200 km from the boarder , let,s hope the GPS on my phone works  cause now there is more than 1 road to take  . Russia only had 1 main road so was pretty hard to get lost out of the cities. So up to Jyaskyla  winding around lakes and rivers , a very welcome  site . I pull off the main road and into a small town for a coffee and supplies . First thing i notice in the super market is how much more thing cost compared to Russia . One saving grace is that most people  speak English which make life easier particularly at the check out .
By now it's getting late and don't fancy riding in the dark ,also it's been raining on and off so it into the forest for the night before getting to Tom's house the next day .  Great to see him , few beers and a catch and into the sauna we go . ( every Finish house has one ) .
Next morning i look at the map and see i have already traveled 1/4 way up the county so i decide to go all the way up Finland across to Norway down the west coast following the E6 before heading side ways to Sweden and back into Finland via the Stockholm to Turkic ferry  , roughly 3000km.
Leaving Tom's house i head for the west coast road and up stopping for a night in a small camp ground for 5 euros . Continuing north up to where Finland and Sweden meet at Tornio, here the river that flows south  forms the boarder between the 2 counties.  Staying on the Finish side and about 150km  further north a large sign informs me i have entered the arctic circle  , cool rain deer country and sure enough not more than 10 minutes later 3 rain deer are wondering across the road.
Another night in the forest and further 4 hours riding in the morning sees the scenery changing from forest to bare rocks and snow covered mountains . The town of Käsivarrentie, which technically is Lapland is the last outpost before entering Norway and as Norway has a stronger economy due to it's oil and gas i fill up the petrol tank and stock up on food , then a short 35 minutes ride later I'm in Norway  , down a spectacular winding road to a brightest blue lake i've ever seen  and instantly  the scenery is stunning , high mountains and fiords with the road following the side of the lakes and inlets , petty it absolutely poured down with rain 40 minutes later .Spent the next 2 hours under a petrol station forecourt then the night in a farmers shed 20 more km down the road.

Down the E6 to Stockholm
After a very uncomfortable night using firewood packing sacks as a mattress , hoping the farmer doesn't see me in his shed and the sun not setting all night ,I head off around 6 am or so i thought .It was only after weaving around more lake hugging roads for 80km and arriving in Narvik. There the petrol station attendant informed me that Norway was an hour behind Finland . That would explain the reason their is no one on the roads. He told me if i wanted some great pictures of the town to follow the road up the mountain that  lead to the small  reservoir . Up there was a small car park  area with a panoramic  view of the town it also offered a great view of the  fiords that surround the Harbour. Very eerie that time of the morning
After waiting for the shops to open to get a coffee, pastrie and warm up a little ,It's out of town and on to the best road ever made for a motorcycle the E6 . The E6 is the main hi way that runs from Narvik all the way down to Oslo . It tracks along the lakes and fiords , up over and through mountains passes .It even has some pretty amazing bridges spanning some fairly large gouges. About 2 hours out of Narvik a car ferry is used to get across an inlet that would otherwise 6 hour by car .
I follow the E6 for about 8 hour but only manage to cover 350km due to it's only 1 lane each way,  has a 70km speed limit , 50 through towns of which are many . It is also a popular route for caravans and motorhomes making it hard to over take . But i'm in no hurry , the scenery is to good to rush .
After a quick stop for petrol and some food  the road continues ,weaving it's way alone the edge of the river .It's getting late time to stop . I ride down one off the small dirt tracks that come off the main road and after 100 metres of forest it  come out on a small clearing next to the river , perfect place to camp for the night .

The Big one begins

Bike got away safely to Korea and should be waiting at the Busan docks when i get there. Hopefully all custom cleared with my temporary import export permit . I need this or I'm going nowhere. The Ferry leaves every Sunday from Donghea and I'm booked for the 23rd  So if all goes well i should have 8 to 10 days to ride around Korea First . Country has 80 million people and is 2/3  the size of New Zealand's south island so it will be a quick learning curve for riding on the other side of the road. But before that i have 14 hours to kill in KL .

Busan or Bust
Finally made it to Busan after 3 days of traveling .You would think that 14 hour in KL would be easy to kill but when you fly out at 11.30pm dont sleep on the plane the last thing you want to do is pound the streets. fly out  that night at 11.30pm arriving in Seoul 6.00am again no sleep . Both Seoul and KL have transit trains from the airport  right into the middle city. English is everywhere in KL  so made it easier to work out trains ,subways and buying food. but Korea on one speaks english and apart from the road signs having written words on then every thing else is symbols. Seoul, the small bit is saw is your typical large over crowded city , It,s not hard to see why it,s so prosperous over the last 10 years , no Japanese cars and very few electronic companies , all Korean , Hyundai cars make up 75% of cars on the roads and the Asian people have embarrassed the mobile phone to the point that every person on the train was holding one .
Hi speed train to Busan took 2 1/2 hours to cover 500km not as nice as the European trains but just as fast and one leaving every 30 minutes  show how many people use it to travel. Seoul to Busan is like going from Paris to Marseille . Definitely the tourist city of Korea . After a 30 minutes walk got to the customs house and $1000 and 2 hours later i'm riding my own bike out and on to the streets and a further 30 minutes i find my hotel . That was interesting ,rush hour and riding on the other side of the road .

Hit the Road
After the false start yesterday i finally started heading north up the east coast to Donghea . Plan was to head about 200 km north and then go and camp a few nights in one of the national parks before getting the boat but I'm afraid Korea doesnt like motorbikes and make it very hard to get anywhere fast . No bikes on any motorway or any large bridge were the speed limit is 80km  so it took me the best part of 2 hours to get across Busan and out to the coastal road , which is pretty good riding if you like going 60km and every 10km theres another fishing village. great for the first 3 or 4 times but wares thin after that . In saying that the scenery is nice . unfortunately because you cant go on the motorways you have to ride through the larger citys and these are quite large industrial city's with people every where. I only made it 170km in 5 hours and as i dont know the quality of the national parks roads i wasn't going to chance it with night coming on . stopped at a seaside hotel about 20km from the turn off so will have a full day to attack it tomorrow.

Camping to Vodka
Got to the national park after asking some friendly firemen the way. Nice spot , about 25km of trails to explore . Hiking is a Korea past time so all the facility's are top notch . Nice clean camp ground . UP early for a run to the boarder . again a slow  ride but still worth it , unfortunately i was stopped 5 km short of the board as motorcycles aren't allow . right up on the boarder. no photos either . Back down the road i came down to Donghea to wait for the ferry. Waiting outside the terminal at 9 am was greeted by Mr Karn , he organizes all the paperwork for exporting the bikes to Russia , all went without a hitch and at 2.30pm we leave Korea bound for Vladivostok.
The Ferrys website and photos do it more justice than it deserves . very basic with 8 to a room buck style although there were very few people and only myself and another biker heading for Mongolia shared the one room . and Italian biker heading home after 18 months is also on the boat . very clam sailing and 24 hours later we sail into Vladivostok .
Our bikes are impounded for 3 days while Yuri ,our fixer sorts out insurance and import permits .
hopefully on Wednesday afternoon should be riding of the  wharf. If that does happen will spend a night at the iron tigers motorcycle club to check the bike maybe look at a new tyre . In the mean time it,s site seeing time .

Vladivostok to Chita
Got the bike on Wedensday about 6pm ,so straight back to the hostel ,grab my gear and off to the Iron Tigers club house. These guys are the most helpful hospitable bunch people your likely to meet. Had to wait for the Italian rider i meet on the boat , his new license was being posted and he needed it for his insurance.
Got going around 10 ,hoping to get to Kabaros 750km by dark but only  450km. the road is still being made so there are good bits then theres 20km sections of pot holed gravel . in fact most of the road apart from the last 500km into Chita is pretty much like this. Stop in a small village and got invited to a 50th birthday party at the local out door kebab house. While we were there word got out that 3 foreign biker were in town and the local police came by and wrote down our number plates . It's zero alcohol tolerance in Russia so they were waiting for us to leave . Luckily they were spotted writing down the number plates so we were warned and advised to camp at the back of the kebab house . Gravel car park , musci till 3 , fireworks and a large barking dog aided in the lack of sleep.
Still got going around 7 and were in Kabaros by 11. and a further 500km and 7hours later found ourselves camping up a logging road . Same deal the next day , gravel and pot holes and camping in the bush until we reached Chita . One of the people staying in the hostel in Vladivostok warned us not to go to Chita "many criminals in Chita " he kept repeating .    I found it to be a great city , Theres a large statue of Lennon in the main square .
,The out lying area like in most city look a bit dodgy and you just don't go there.  Got a hotel as 5 days riding makes for smelly bikers and while showering in found a tick buried into my chest . Off to the local Doctor surgery  as ticks here carry nasty diseases . 2 injections in the bum and we're all clear to go.  Had a good look around the main city centre and a good night sleep in a real bed before the next stage.

 Chita to Irkutsk
After a morning of looking around the centre  we rode out of town about 2pm heading for Ulan ade 620km away. Once again the road has it,s good stretches ,bad stretches and down right awful stretches . came across large bits of road removed in 1m x 3m sections and about 200cm deep with no warnings as to them being there. It's like the road crew have come along and removed a bad section of road but the tar seal truck and it's workers haven't caught up to fill them in . The closer you get to Ulan ude the more Asian faces you see as it is only 350km from the Mongolian boarder.20km before town I say goodbye to my riding companion as he's going to Mongolia . and 1 hour later I'm at the Opposite motorcycle club eating , drinking and swapping stories with the 4 Russian bikers that are also staying there before there ride down to Mongolia. One draws me a map of a lake in the south that is better and has less people than Lake bikail . The 4 bikers leave at 6am the next day  I also pack up head into the town centre to see the largest stone statue of Lenon's head before riding the 460km to Irkutsk

Irkutsk to Barnaul
Arriving in Irkutsk at 6pm the contact i was given didn't have his phone turned on and after trying 3 hotels that all wanted 3000 r ( $120 aud) and all the hostel and smaller hotels were full as the trains from Chine and  Vladivostok both arrived today . They meet here , have a stop over before the china passengers join the Vladivostok train bound for Moscow.  So i gave up and headed out of town about 100km and camped in the forest just of the road. Another 2 days riding and i was in Kemerovo looking for a bike chain with no luck , but one shop called another in the next city 600km away and they had the right chain so crossed finger mine will last. Even lubing the chain daily the sand , dirt and dust eat out the o rings . the chain hasn't stretched just has to much sideways movement. I thought i would chance it and took a  3 day detour to the lake on the map i had drawn for me back in Ulan ade . while there i meet a biker on a CB400 who told me the bike shop he goes to in Barnaul has chains and tryes and as I will also need a tyre before much longer  may as well do both at the same time. Barnaul is only 380km from the lake so an easy ride. .The  bike shop only had a tyre in stock but ordered me a chain . so it's another 2 day stop over but least i will have good rubber and chain for the next 3700km to Moscow.

Getting the bike Ready

Got back from my Australian leg and it's straight into getting organized for the Russian to England leg. Booked the bike on the boat with Stewart from TRADELANES GLOBAL SOLUTIONS link below. Stewart is one very helpful person and if anyone needs overseas shipping give him a call.
Went to the local bike shop and got a packing crate the bikes come down from Japan in , just made it wider to allow for the panniers and higher . I have to take it to the wharf by Monday 20th  to be  put in the container and on the ship by the 23rd and in Korea by the 11th June.
Found out i need to get a temporary import / export permit for the bike in Korea and an outward bound ticket . So i had to speak to the car ferry company in Korea . With a bit of broken English i got the bike and myself booked for Vladivostok on the 23rd June
Russian visa has been approved and should be in the post by next week , Thanks Iris Travel in Sydney.

I just hope that's all i need apart from Green card insurance for the bike . I have been told i get the temporary import/export permit for Russia at the port at Vladivostok but i have also be told to be patient and go with the flow and if all else fails bribe some one.

And so the Ride To Remember begins.

Day 1 Sunshine coast to Rockhampton
after 3 weeks of no rain i woke at 5am to the sound of heavy rain  great just what i needed. Wasn't to bad only got wet twice but i put on the wet weather leggings so didnt get to wet. Made good time to Gladstone . Stop at the local news paper were the took a few photos of me and the bike and said they would run a story so will post the link when i get it.
Why is it on a long trip the last 50km seem to drag. they did today coming into Rockhampton although the road works every 5 km didn't help. never mind i;m here now . only a short hope tomorrow to Emerald so should get time to upload some photos.

Day 2 Rockhampton to Emerald
Didnt get away from Rocky till 2pm did a newspaper interview and a TV interview with the local channel 7 network . Worked out OK as it is only 290km between the two. I found out where those trains that kept me up all night came from, Blackwater coal mine . these trains have to be at least 1km long they have one loco at and the front and back and two together in the middle  full of coal. there would be one every 20 minutes .
The road is getting straighter and flatter and the trees smaller. not much to photo out here but if something looks interesting i will post it

Day 3 Emerald to Longreach
Got a early start but as usual encounted road works for the best part of  the first100km  . in between the road works the road is pretty good with very little traffic mainly trucks and caravans . made good time to Alpha for breakfast , after that the road is almost straight all the way to longreach so can cruise along at 120kph. Saw emu,s roaming wild and not behind a fence which was pretty cool but on the down side there would be a dead kangaroo or wallaby lying in the road side every 300 metres.
Got a cheap cabin so no tent tonight but to offset the extra exspence will eat in as it comes with kitchen.
Not to sure about tomorrows stop over as the lady at the caravan park says theres nothing in Mckinlay and i think it might be a bit far to ride all the way to Mt Isa in one hit.

Day 4 Longreach to Mt Isa
Left about 7.30 and decided to go all the way to Mt Isa in one go . 10 minutes out of town the local fire brigade were burning of the scrub alone the edge of the road . there would have been 10 to 15 wedge tailed kites hovering over the fire swooping on the lizard and such that escaped the flames . Just like yesterday the road is flat and wide so was able to make good time knocking off the first 180km in hour 30 .. was a good idea not to stop in Mckinlay, nothing there apart from the compulsory pub and servo
About 30km before Cloncurry and  the flat lands stop and it became quick rocky and road had corners almost like the Spanish side of the Pryernees and that continued all the way to Mt Isa.

Day 5 Mt Isa to Barkly Homestead
Decided  not to do the rest day as i started the ride one day later and didn't stop in Mckinlay .Did a newspaper and prerecorded radio interview before leaving so was'nt on the road till 11.30 .First 200km went quickly. had to stop at Camooweal for fuel Mt Isa $1.54 litre Camooweal $1.94 .Ten minutes later i'm in the Northern Territory speed limit jumps to 130kph but the cross wind is so strong i can only cruise comfortable at 115kph  all the way to Barkly homestead. Nice place for being in the middle of no were ,fuel stop ,pub, restaurant and caravan park all rolled into one.

Day 6 Barkly Homestead to Alice Springs
Plan today was a easy 211km ride to tennant Creek for chat with the local newspaper reporter then check into the caravan park for a lazy afternoon . But decided to continue all the way to Alice Spring a further 510km down the road . Not as hard as I thought ,plenty to look at as the landscape keeps changing . Encounter a pair of large eagles in the middle of the road enjoying some road kill and they didn,t want to move , I had to come to a almost complete stop before they took off  . I,d hate to hit one of them ,bloody large bird and nasty looking talons . The outback Petrol stations  on the Hi way double up as the pub  with the local inhabitant sitting around outside enjoying the odd VB or two . Alica Spring seems nice for the part i,ve  seen so far and if you every fined yourself here stay at the Alice Motor Inn .Gee the owner did me a good deal for two nights .

Day 7 Rest day
Took in the sights and delights of Alice Springs . Did a news paper interview for the Advocote  and a live radio interview for the local ABC AM network.

Day 8 Alice Springs to Coober Pedy
Same old same old . straight roads and cross winds . Once i crossed into South Australia it started to look more like the out back with very little vegetation and red sandy soil as apposed to rocky ground.
more eagles on the road , they seem to like the fresh road kill rather than the sun baked dried out carcases .
Not hard to tell when your getting close to Coober Pedy all these mounds of dirt that look like tee pees dot the land scape and because of the winds all this dirt gets blown into town so it resembles a dust bowl.

Day 9 Coober Pedy to Port Augusta
Got up nice and early to get into Port Augusta by lunch time . Hit the road at 6.45 ,did a loop of the town with the gopro on before meeting the hi-way right on sun rise.  Got some great photos with half a sun on the flat horizon . Road was flat again till just before lake hart then it started to wind a little . thought  the flat lands had  finally finished but no they continued right into Port Augusta
Lake Hart if it had some water in it would almost certainly be a lake but in it's present  state it,s the type of place to come to try and beat the world land speed record. More eagles and emus everywhere
Nice to smell the ocean again .looks like the road to Adelaide follows the coast so should be in for a good ride tomorrow.

Day 10 Port Augusta to Adelaide
Nice easy day only 300km but now were back in traffic so it slows down the  flow a little . Did a detour via Port Pirie and alone to Bute which missed about 80km of the main road , Then i had to rejoin the main hi-way again . I,m going to rename it the Grey Nomad Hi-Way ,every second car was towing a caravan . I don't know where they all going but there not going  up to Alice springs .I only passed about 20 caravans in 2 days  getting to Port Augusta and i reckon is passed that many in 20 minute today Coming in Adelaide was just like any big city ,cars traffic ,red lights .Bring back the outback roads. Here for two days then its the great ocean roads around to Melbourne

Day 11Adelaide to Mount Gambier
It was good to get back on the bike after a two day break at my brother in laws house .  I think the Adelaide drivers are worse than Queensland .they dont like merging or should i say wont let you merge , they would rather see you run over the road works worker than let you into their lane .
Anyway after a 30 minute ride across town i was on the south/east freeway . standard duel carriage way that want for 80km before i turned off to follow the princess hi/way Nice windy road although a little bumpy and corrugated coupled with a strong cross wind blowing off the ocean gave a few brown trouser moments  around some of the tighter corners. Still makes a change from  endless straights . Last 40km to Mt Gambier is pine forest ,so once again the scenery changes.Melbourne tomorrow .

Day 12  Mount Gambier to Sale
Was supposed to stop in Melbourne but where. there are no caravan parks in the CBD or even close so it was easier just to keep going after i stop at the TV and newspaper places. First part of the day ws cold 6 degrees cold my finger tips froze . lucky there were road works i had to stop for so i could hold my  hands against the engine . quick blast to  Warrnambool around 160km . nice sea side town . stopped for brunch before heading of down the Great Ocean Road . Road would have perfect for bike riding if it wasnt for all the motorhomes and caravans , stop to check out the 12 appossals  before joining the main hi-way to Melbourne . In one end and out the other down the south/east freeway which is all duel carriage way right through to Sale .
Change of root tomorrow left at Lake entrance and up to Camberra   8 hours of windy inland road or so the locals tell me.

Day 13 Sale to Goulburn
Up bright and early again  heading for Camberra .First 180 km took me into Lake Entrance . Fishing and tourist town  . the next 80 into Cann River were great windy roads through forest . Saw a poor wombat on the side of the road but he was still smiling  Quick coffee in Cann river before the 210km to camberra .If you ever find yourself in Australia on a bike this is the road to ride It take you up into the Snowy Mountains .It had just rained 20 minutes before so couldnt push it to hard .As i wound my way higher  the trees gave way to pasture before rolling into the town of Bombela. then the road turned into high speed sweeping bends all the way to 30 km before Camberra, The sun began to shine the road was dry it was just bike riding heaven. Was going to stop in Camberra for the night but the nations capital doesn,t have to many caravan parks so a further 86km down the duel carriage way to Goulburn .

Day 14 Goulburn to Scone
Off to Sydney or so was the plan. .Left around 7.30 hoping to miss the morning rush . straight up the motor way ,3 lanes of trucks ,cars and idiots all heading to work. every now and then the motor way passed over deep gorges and rivers which is quintessential Australian landscape. Some how i ended up on a toll road and then a tunnel . but eventually i got to where i was going , Neuro science research Australia ,the head office of the charity i,m raising money for. After a brief visit i was going to stay at my brother in laws but once again i found myself on a toll road heading out of Sydney so i decided just to keep going,  after a couple of weeks of very few cars all the traffic and people and stopping for every traffic light i came upon was driving me insane so i was happy to leave, heading up the motorway to Newcastle. Turn left at Newcastle take you up the New England Hi-way and the back way to Brisbane .This is the longer route but the more scenic and 3 hours latter i stop for the night in Scone a rural farming town unspoilt by large corporate fast food chain stores. To bad the caravan park had the train track right behind me .

Day 15 Scone to Sunshine coast
Last day 846km to home , up and going by 6am and man it,s cold 4degres hard to tell if the road is wet or not .134km to Tamworth, easy county roads .nice sweeping corners but every 30 or so km there a small town so you have to slow to 70km . makes it hard to maintain a good average speed. Tamworth is up on the table lands so it was even colder 2 degrees. I defiantly need some winter goretex gloves before Russia . The road from Tamworth to Ipswich , 600 odd kms is same as before  nice open flowing roads ,and it getting warmer the closer to Queensland i get. The NSW road transport have two sets of average speed cameras but they aim the scanner towards you so they can,t scan the bikes number plate . Happy days . At Ipswich its120km home through Brisbane  or 170km the long way around the two dams .Lake wivanhoe and Lake Somerset .these roads are fantastic Sunday bike riding roads .So after 7380km whats another 50 more . Stunning scenery as the road follows the edge of the lakes . Up over peachester hill and home . 7450km later .
Even after all that riding and long days in the saddle  i,d go around again, there's something surprisingly relaxing about cruising along in the outback without seeing any other vehicle for hours.
If reading this wets your apatite for adventure riding around Australia or even across Russia drop me a line .
Next post will be sometime in early June just before leaving for Korea
Take care . Paul

Down To The Last Week

Well there's only a few days to go before i start the first leg of my ride. Still working on what  I'm  taking, packing and repacking panniers. Ordered a 1 cup stove top coffee maker which is nice and small but it hasn't arrived yet so i dont know what i,m going to do if it doesn't arrive before Wednesday Sleeping in a tent for 3 weeks I'm  going to want a coffee with in the first 10 minutes of waking .
Might be a slight revision of  the route due to the floods in Bundaburg .I'm either going to leave on the Thursday and go right to Rockhamptom or leave later on the Wednesday and stop in Harvey Bay.
This is the link to my GPS locator share page which will pin point my location anywhere in the world
